UPPC & CBS Partner to Promote Social Economic Development
By Marvin Mutenyo
Mengo, 7 August 2024: In a landmark event held at Bulange, Mengo, the Uganda Printing and Publishing Corporation (UPPC) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Central Broadcasting Services (CBS). The partnership is aimed at promoting culture and socio-economic development among diverse communities in Uganda.
During the signing ceremony, the Deputy Katikiro, Owek. Robert Wagwa Nsibirwa, emphasized the importance of this timely collaboration, noting that it will significantly boost local businesses through strategic advertising and ensuring compliance with regulations, particularly in relation to Gazetting of businesses as provided for in the law.
"Seventy percent of Uganda’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is generated within the central region of Uganda. Therefore, there is a need for increased awareness about the laws that govern business," remarked Owek. Nsibirwa.
Given the various initiatives undertaken by CBS, including CBS PEWOSA, trade shows, and financial trading SACCOs, this partnership is seen as crucial in expanding the reach of legal awareness among businesses. Leveraging both UPPC and CBS’s experience as prominent media experts, the partnership will amplify outreach efforts, ensuring that essential legal information and business guidelines are accessible to entrepreneurs and the general public.
The UPPC Board Chairman, Mr. Joachim Buwembo, extended congratulations to CBS upon the restoration of their broadcasting license, which had been withdrawn for fourteen years by the Government. This partnership marked CBS’s first formal agreement with a government body since regaining their broadcasting rights.
Mr. Buwembo also highlighted that UPPC operates on commercial principles without financial support from the national coffers, positioning the Corporation to effectively leverage this partnership by delivering quality and timely services.
Mr. Micheal Kawooya Mwebe, the Managing Director of CBS, expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration, emphasizing that the unique business opportunity will not only benefit the two entities but also the Kingdom of Buganda and Uganda as a whole. He noted that the partnership would promote socio-economic development that will reach even grassroots communities, further addressing the need for increased financial literacy and business compliance across all levels of society.
"We are proud to partner with UPPC, and pledge our support and commitment towards making this partnership fruitful," affirmed Owek. Nsibirwa.
This partnership is expected to play a significant role in fostering socio-economic growth and cultural preservation across Uganda through various Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives and business transactions.
