Hon. Milly B. Babalanda Opens UPPC FY2024/25 Board Retreat

Kampala, 18th July 2024: The Uganda Printing and Publishing Corporation (UPPC) held their annual Board retreat at Kabira Country Club aimed at building board capacity and development, review and evaluation of the board function, and planning for the FY2024/25. 

In her opening remarks, Hon. Milly Babirye Babalanda, Minister for the Presidency, applauded the UPPC Board for the collective effort, dedication and unwavering commitment towards excellent service delivery and change in public perception, especially through the recently held Stakeholder Engagement Day.

“I trust that by now, UPPC has established a powerful and effective decision-making process through robust practices and policies. This will create a defence system against any allegations of misconduct in executing corporate duties,” reiterated Hon. Babalanda. 

Mr. Joachim Buwembo, UPPC Board chairman recognized the visible strides made in the first year of service, including; renovations, repair of machinery, establishment of operational policies and innovative developments (online service portal, online bookshop, GovInfoHub and E-Gazette). 

He added that, “Much as the above are evident, the Board is intentional to grow the Corporation through streamlining business processes, strengthening a culture of transparency and accountability towards desired corporate governance, and having a customer-centricity business approach.” 

Despite the non-compliance from Government Ministries, Departments and Agencies in prioritising UPPC for printing and publishing jobs and non-reviewal of the UPPC Act since 1992, the Corporation remains committed towards ⁠supporting government programs to ensure the implementation of the NRM manifesto.

The UPPC Managing Director, Prof. Sudi Nangoli noted that at the operational level, the Corporation is shaping its governance function by adhering to strategic values of teamwork, integrity, professionalism, innovation, and customer centricity. 

“We are nurturing a culture of transparency and accountability, reducing audit queries and promoting good governance practices,” he added.

The UPPC remains committed to best corporate governance practices through transparency, accountability, ethical conduct and risk management.
