UPPC Gives Back to Nansana Community Through CSR Program

Kampala, 17th September, 2024:As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) mandate, Uganda Printing and Publishing Corporation (UPPC) has made a generous donation to Barbie Children Foundation, a charitable organization that supports vulnerable children in Nansana, Kampala. The donation includes a wide range of scholastic materials and essential household items like sanitary towels, soap, clothes, and foodstuffs.

Mr. Joseph Opio Okurut, Director Internal Operations, who ably represented the UPPC Managing Director during the outreach, highlighted the donation of various items, including the newly launched UPPC ‘Smart Exercise Books’. He emphasized that these high-quality exercise books, featuring age-appropriate messages, have been launched through the Foundation’s donations. The unique books are now available in the market at competitive prices.

Speaking at the donation handover, Ms. Rebecca Nyakairu, the Public and Corporate Affairs Manager of UPPC, emphasized the Corporation’s commitment to social development and community wellbeing through giving back to the community, particularly in areas that support education and child welfare.

“UPPC is deeply committed to uplifting vulnerable communities through our Corporate Social Responsibility programs. Education is a fundamental right for every child, and through such initiatives UPPC is desirous to inspire and support the vulnerable. We are proud to play a small part in helping these young minds to grow and achieve their dreams,” she remarked.

In response, Mr. Mugabe Obadiah, a Director at Barbie Children Foundation, expressed his heartfelt gratitude for UPPC’s contribution.

"We are overwhelmed by the generosity of UPPC. These scholastic materials and household essentials will go a long way in ensuring that the children under our care have the necessary tools to succeed in school and live healthy lives," Mugabe said.

On behalf of the beneficiaries, Roline Namuli, a primary seven pupil, thanked UPPC for the donations, especially the scholastic materials which some of the parents were unable to provide for the new term.

“I also thank the staff of Barbie foundation for the love and support they always show to us despite of the challenges they face,” she added.

The Barbie Children Foundation, located in Nansana, Kampala, provides children-care, education to over 300 students, as well as empowerment to the vulnerable. The Foundation also empowers women like widows and single parents, through socio-economic initiatives such as tailoring, hair dressing, baking, craft making among many others, enabling them to be independent and productive members of society.

The visit aligns with UPPC's CSR vision to meaningfully contribute to social development in Uganda by supporting initiatives that promote education, child welfare, and community well-being.
