UPPC Partners with Youth Go-Green Initiative to Advance Uganda’s Green Economy Transition
Kampala, Uganda: The Uganda Printing and Publishing Corporation (UPPC), the official Government printer and publisher of the Uganda Gazette, has partnered with the Youth Go-Green Initiative and Green Economy & Sustainability Secretariat at the 3rd CEO’s Breakfast Meeting and High-Level Dialogue on Green Economy, Sustainability and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), held on 14 October 2026 at UNICEF Headquarters.
Held under the theme “Accelerating Uganda’s Green Economy Transition through Digital Transformation,” the dialogue brought together corporate chief executives, government leaders, United Nations agencies, diplomats and youth innovators to explore how digital technologies can drive sustainable, inclusive and profitable green growth.
The partnership reflects UPPC’s commitment to sustainable development, responsible resource utilisation and digital transformation within the printing and publishing industry.
The guest speaker, the Rt. Hon. Jacob Marksons Oboth, Speaker of the 12th Parliament of Uganda, emphasised the importance of environmental protection and collective responsibility in advancing sustainable development.
“Parliament will stand firm on matters of environment and conservation. We must work together to protect our natural resources and ensure that sustainable practices are embraced for the benefit of future generations,” he said.

He further highlighted the need for government institutions, the private sector and young people to collaborate in promoting the green economy, adopting sustainable practices and preserving ‘mother nature’ for future generations.
Representing the Managing Director of UPPC, Director Business Development Rebecca Nyakairu highlighted the Corporation’s progress in digital transformation and its contribution to sustainable publishing and service delivery.
“At UPPC, we are targeting 80% digitisation of our products and services by 2028, having achieved 60% so far. Through electronic platforms such as the E-Gazette, our Service Portal and digital publishing, we are expanding access to official information while reducing paperwork, unnecessary travel and reliance on physical distribution. We are also investing in energy-efficient technologies, responsible production and staff capacity to minimise waste and improve operational efficiency. We believe digital transformation is a key driver of sustainable growth, and through strategic partnerships just like one with NEMA, we remain committed to advancing a greener, more efficient and inclusive printing and publishing industry,” said Nyakairu.

With 124 years of experience in printing and publishing, UPPC recognises the importance of aligning its operations with evolving environmental standards and sustainable business practices. The Corporation continues to explore opportunities to improve resource efficiency, reduce paper waste and expand digital access to government information.
A key milestone in this transformation is the availability of the Uganda Gazette through the UPPC website (uppc.go.ug), which is now accessible online, free of charge. The initiative enhances public access to official government information while demonstrating how digital service delivery can complement efforts to reduce reliance on physical processes where electronic alternatives are appropriate.
Through its collaboration with the Youth Go-Green Initiative and other key partners such as UCC and UN agencies, UPPC seeks to strengthen engagement on environmental awareness, youth participation and practical sustainability solutions. The partnership reinforces the importance of collaboration among public institutions, the private sector and civil society in supporting Uganda’s transition to a green economy.
