UPPC at the NIRA My Identity Expo, Bringing Gazetting Services Closer
Every adult in Uganda, business owner, academic institution, Ministry, department and Agency (MDAs), private company and organisation, among others, needs to know the Uganda Gazette. As a document of legal record, the Uganda Gazette features legal notices published in fulfilment of different legal provisions. It is thus prudent that everyone is familiar with what is published in the Uganda Gazette- not just for them to come and advertise in abidance with a legal requirement, but also to be informed of what has been published in the Uganda Gazette.
It is understood that the public needs to know about the Uganda Gazette in order to take appropriate action. The Uganda Printing and Publishing Corporation (UPPC) has continuously moved to the people to sensitise them but also offer services related to the Uganda Gazette. The most recent efforts relate to UPPC’s participation in the National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA) My Identity Expo and Symposium 2026, held from 29 September to 1 October at the Kololo Ceremonial Grounds in Kampala. At the expo, UPPC extended services such as drafting deed polls for Ugandans in need of changing their names and offering general legal advice related to the Uganda Gazette.
The three-day event brought together government institutions and other stakeholders to provide identity-related services, address public concerns and improve access to essential registration services. For UPPC, the expo provided an opportunity to engage directly with citizens, demonstrate the practical relevance of its services and support efforts to make legal documentation more accessible.
Supporting Citizens Through Legal Documentation
Throughout the expo, UPPC provided on-site assistance to individuals seeking to formalise changes to their personal particulars. The Corporation's team supported applicants in drafting deed polls, offered guidance on the gazetting process and responded to enquiries regarding the documentation required for changes to names and other personal details.

The initiative complemented NIRA's efforts to facilitate identity-related services under one roof, helping applicants understand the various steps involved in ensuring that their personal records are accurate and supported by the requisite legal documentation.
The Uganda Gazette: Connecting identity to Legal Recognition
Beyond providing direct assistance, UPPC's participation highlighted the important role of the Uganda Gazette in the formal documentation of personal particulars.
As Uganda's official government printry, UPPC is mandated to publish the Gazette, which carries legal notices, statutory instruments, government appointments and other official information. Its involvement in the process therefore extends beyond document production to supporting the publication of information that facilitates legal and administrative processes.

The initiative demonstrated the value of institutional collaboration in addressing citizens' needs, particularly where accessing a service requires coordination between multiple government agencies.
Extending UPPC's Public Service Mandate
UPPC's participation in the My Identity Expo reflects the Corporation's broader commitment to making its services more accessible and responsive to the needs of the public.
"Our participation in the My Identity Expo reflects UPPC's commitment to making its services more accessible to the public. Through our support in deed poll preparation and gazetting, we were able to engage directly with citizens and demonstrate the important role that official government publications play in legal documentation and public administration." Ms. Shamirah Naigaga, Public Relations Assistant.
By taking its expertise beyond its offices and directly into the community, the Corporation continues to strengthen public awareness of its services while supporting government initiatives that bring essential services closer to the people. Through initiatives such as this, UPPC continues to demonstrate how official government publishing contributes to everyday life, supporting legal recognition, public administration and access to essential services.
Although the My Identity Expo has concluded, UPPC's commitment to supporting citizens through its gazetting services continues. Members of the public seeking assistance with deed polls and other gazetting requirements can access information through the Corporation's established service channels.
